A Brief Masters
History (1982 – 2000)

The Trinidad and Tobago Amateur Masters Athletics Association was established in 1982 October 30, soon after participating in the Pan American Championships in Barquisimento, Venezuela, 1982 September 02-05. The Association then applied for and was granted membership to the World Association of Veteran Athletes (WAVA).

  • DECADES OF DEDICATION

Because of WAVA’S rulings that there should be one National Veterans’ Body, the Association’s Constitution was amended to accommodate other sporting organizations. Current Affiliates are:

  • Trinidad and Tobago Police Sports Club
  • Trinidad and Tobago Defense Force
  • Fire Services Sports Club

NORTH AND CENTRAL AMERICAN AND CARIBBEAN REGIONAL MASTERS CHAMPIONSHIP

For the first time a Regional Championships was held in an English Speaking Country: Trinidad and Tobago from 1990 August 23-26. Over three hundred (300) athletes from thirteen (13) countries attended – Aruba, Australia, Barbados, Brazil, Canada, England, Guyana, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Uruguay, U.S. Virgin Islands, United States, Venezuela and Host – Trinidad and Tobago. Although the county’s political disturbance on July 27 was responsible for a total financial loss and some cancellation of athletes, the Track and Field program of participation was an outstanding success.

CHAMPIONSHIPS – LOCAL AND INTERNATIONAL

The Association held eight (8) local championships over the years 1985, 1987,1990,1992,1994,1998,1999,2000. Attempts to hold these meets annually have been unsuccessful due to a lack of financial assistance. The Association is making every effort to ensure continuity from now on.

Invitations were sent to our Caribbean counterparts and we have had guests from Barbados in 1990 and 2000. We hope to have participants from affiliates at future meets.

Our Association has been represented at WAVA International Championships from 1982 to present. A summary of our performances at these meets is attached.

Eight of our members have entered for the Regional Championships in Kamloops, British Colombia, Canada
